On the Fueling of Massive Black Holes and the Properties of Their Host Spheroids
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the relation between nuclear massive black holes and their host spheroid gravitational potential. Using simple models, we analyze how gas is expected to be transported in the nuclear regions of galaxies. When we couple it with the expected gas lifetime given by the Kennicutt-Schmidt Law, this naturally leads to the ‘MBH Mvirial’ and ‘MBH σ’ relations. Towards a Comprehensive Fueling-controlled Theory on the Growth of Massive Black Holes and Host Spheroids
We study the relation between nuclear massive black holes and their host spheroid gravitational potential. Using AMR numerical simulations, we analyze how gas is transported in the nuclear (central kpc) regions of galaxies. We study the gas fueling onto the inner accretion disk (sub-pc scale) and the star formation in a massive nuclear disk like those generally found in proto-spheroids (ULIRGs,...

The properties of radio loud active galaxies (radiogalaxies, BL Lac objects and radio loud quasar) at low and high redshift are briefly reviewed and compared. The recently derived empirical relations between central black hole mass and host properties allow one to explore the demographics of massive black hole in active galaxies. It is shown that all classes of active galaxies considered exhibi...
متن کاملAdiabatic Growth of Massive Black Holes
We discuss the process of adiabatic growth of central black holes in the presence of a stationary, pre-existing distribution of collisionless stars. Within the limitations of the assumptions, the resulting models make robust physical predictions for the presence of a central cusp in the stellar and dark matter density, a Keplerian rise in the velocity dispersion, and a significant tangential po...
متن کاملQuasar Metal Abundances & Host Galaxy Evolution
Quasars signal a unique phase of galaxy evolution – when massive spheroids are rapidly being assembled, forming stars and growing their central super-massive black holes. Measurements of the metal abundances around quasars provide unique information about these complex evolutionary processes. Here we provide a brief review of the current status and implications of quasar abundance research. The...
متن کاملSupermassive Black Holes and Galaxy Morphology
This review addresses one of the important topics of current astrophysical research, namely the role that supermassive black holes play in shaping the morphology of their host galaxies. There is increasing evidence for the presence of massive black holes at the centers of all galaxies and many efforts are directed at understanding the processes that lead to their formation, the duty cycle for t...
